The Road Home

The Road Home
“Go’in Home”. Words to this Negro spiritual are encouraging and the music is moving. Then I heard the gospel hymn
Road Home.” (  This hymn, the words of which follow was sung by a choir at a recent memorial service for a friend who died of brain cancer. I found the melody and words overwhelming and yet peace carrying.
Tell me, where is the road
I can call my own,
That I left, that I lost
So long ago?
All these years I have wandered,
Oh when will I know
There’s a way, there’s a road
That will lead me home?

After wind, after rain,
When the dark is done,
As I wake from a dream
In the gold of day,
Through the air there’s a calling
From far away,
There’s a voice I can hear
That will lead me home.

Rise up, follow me,
Come away, is the call,
With the love in your heart
As the only song;
There is no such beauty
As where you belong;
Rise up, follow me,
I will lead you home.

This world is not our abiding home and often is full of storms that make us yearn for a better place, our home in heaven. It is a beautiful place described in Scripture as the city of light where “The Lamb” is the light day and night. Revelation tells us that in heaven there is no more curse or death or pain or tears.  Down the center a pure river of the water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and the Lamb flows.  There are trees of life on both sides baring new fruit monthly and the leaves are for healing of the nations.  Here the Bright and Morning Star, Jesus Christ rules. How do we know, because John the beloved Apostle was taken there to a high mountain to view and return to tell us.

How do we get there? If your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life you are going.  How do we get in The Book?  By trusting in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, the One who came to die for you and me, and then rose again and is seated at the right hand of the Father in Heaven. Yes, He alone in the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father but by Him (John 14:6-8). We are all sinners saved by the grace of God if we will receive the gift. There is no other way; we cannot save ourselves. No good works will do; as most world religions will hope. This hope leads nowhere good, but only to darkness away from the Light of God.  ’God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:5).

You are the road home!
You are the Way of Life!
There is no other Way to go
That brings the Light of Life.

Cast your cares upon Him,
He will lead you home.
Trust in the One, the Shepherd,
The Guide, the Gate.
He will lead you home.

The road is wending, steep and hard,
But I will lead you home.
Do not despair, for I am where,
The road will lead you home.

Below the earth, above my heaven,
“I am the Road,
also the Truth,
and the Life.
I will lead you home.
There is a Road of Righteousness
And I will lead you Home.

Are we there yet? Keep looking up for your redemption draws near. Come quickly Jesus- Maranatha!!
