Freedom
The ancient Psalmist said, “The
Lord sets prisoners free” (Psalm 146:7). A key verse in the Gospel of
John says, “So if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed” (John
8:36). There are many Scripture verses speaking of how God sets us free, not
man and especially not the government. Freedom is not free, but has been fought
for in foreign lands with the blood of brave men and women since the
Revolution.
Freedom comes with responsibility. This
requirement is to remember why and how we achieved it as a nation. “There
arose in Egypt a new king who did not know Joseph” (Exodus 1:8).
Pharaoh did not remember Joseph. Whether no one told him or he just chose to
forget, the result was the same. The nation that had become the world’s
foremost, lost everything.
It seems that in this country, we have
forgotten what has made us great. It is God that has made us great.
“It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of
Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to
implore His protection and favor.” – George Washington
Our motto is “In God We
Trust.” Yet, today many atheists want to take it out of our money and Pledge of
Allegiance and anywhere from schools to government. This craze is to our peril.
It is God who has been our guide and protector for 300 years.
We have turned to do what
makes us feel good about ourselves and be tolerant to a culture that has headed
toward Sodom. I am not talking about allowing the freedom to do what we wish. I
am talking about giving rights to others that sublimate the rights and
foundations of our country. If we do not learn from history we are damned to
repeat it.
“The fear of capitalism has compelled socialism to widen
freedom, and the fear of socialism has compelled capitalism to increase
equality. East is West and West is East, and soon the twain will meet.”
We are headed toward taxing more so many more do not
need to work. Our churches seem to be not only becoming tolerant, but changing
the Word of God to redefine marriage away from being between a man and woman. It is
indeed a very slippery and fast moving downward slope.
Freedom has responsibility. We are to remind people from
where our freedom came and who brought it. We are to know that not all thoughts
are equally good or religions speak of the same God who ordained our freedoms
and the commandments to be obedient to what God’s Law says.
Brave Heart yelled “Freedom” from oppression. He fought
to keep from being controlled by oppressors.
"You think the people of this country exist to
provide you with position. I think your position exists to provide those people
with
freedom. And I go to make sure that they have it." (William Wallace)
Let’s not forget the lessons from history
and have the courage to stand up to cultural decay.
