Healing Rivers Flow
Recent events in this blessed for now nation, has made me very concerned about the turn away from God to a hedonistic and self-worship, read “practical atheism.” The dark behaviors we are seeing are a direct result of this selfish direction started some 40 years ago in taking prayer and God out of schools and rewriting and disregarding the Bible Scripture as well as our constitution to fit cultural norms that are increasingly immoral by previous standards and God’s. In Deuteronomy 4:2 it is written, “Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord I give you.” God warns in Revelation, “I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book” (Revelation 22:18-19). Peter and many prophets warned of false teacher who would introduce “destructive heresies…bringing swift destruction to themselves” (2 Peter 2:1). Even our Supreme Court has done that for people’s convenience, bringing life to death. We seem as a people to be unconcerned with the truth.
We are on the eve of an election where the divide is much greater than in the many years I have been politically active, and I am saddened. Tomorrow seems to be a stark contrast of life and death, good and evil based on God’s word. It is not just a difference of opinion and you can believe anything you want or all thoughts are relative. No the consequences are much greater, more than anytime in our republic’s recent history. I will say, vote for life and healing of our land.
Healing of our land is spoken of beautifully and prophetically in Scripture. Ezekiel 47 speaks of fresh water flowing from the temple threshold, making a river with life wherever it flows. “Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on the banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing” (Ezekiel 47:12).
In Revelation 22 we can read a similar passage of prophecy concerning the River of Life. “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse” (Revelation 22:1-3).
In Scripture God’s word is spoken of as healing multiple times. In Isaiah we read of repentance and prayer bringing healing. This truth brings me again to 2 Chronicles 7:14 spoken at the Stand in The Gapsacred assembly in the Capitol I attended in 1997 and the recent worship event Surrounded led by Michael W. Smith in Nashville:
“If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and will heal their land.” Like no time in our history, this is the time to do that or pay the consequences in ways most don’t understand or it seems care.
If we will do what God requires even though we are way out of His will, “I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel’s mourners…and I will heal them” (Isaiah 57:18). In Deuteronomy 32:39 God says, “I have wounded and I will heal them.” If you are in distress over the rage and sinful nature of behavior in our nation know God also knows your heart, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3). Are you getting this? Get into Proverbs, which says, “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones” (Proverbs 3:8). It goes on to tell us that gracious words are healing.
I think we all need to be seeking the Lord or be at peril. I personally am praying the prayer of the Prophet Jeremiah saying, “Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise” (Jeremiah 17:14).
Jesus is the Great Physician and Healer. He healed people frequently, described 27 times in Matthew alone. For the Lord healing our souls and bodies is more important than Sabbath rules or law. And Jesus wants our souls and spirits healed, made new and transformed through His word and hand. This is eternal life as our bodies are all wasting away, but we are being renewed every day if we trust in Him. He tells us that our faith in Him will heal us as He did the blind man in the Gospel of Mark.
We can heal, and we can be healthy. In fact it is a spiritual gift as 1 Corinthians 12:9 describes in detail. I believe that God has given me this gift along with encouragement and teaching. God has healed me miraculously from futile illnesses two times. God wants health and spiritual healing of all. He wants none to perish. He wants healing for our broken nation as well. So I end with this beautiful healing blessing from the Apostle John for us all.
“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well” (3 John 1:2).
